Riot update

The little guy has been a fighter and has had a tough time of it.  Yesterday his temperature was normal and he was feeling fairly spry and started drinking water so I thought maybe he was turning the corner.  But by afternoon he was vomiting a lot and acting painful.  We took some radiographs but didn't see anything too exciting.  This morning his fever was back so we added in a third antibiotic and increased his fluid rate.  He has responded pretty well to that and looks a little better this afternoon.  On the plus side, he's only vomited once today and is tolerating the syringe feeding of a liquid diet very well.

And I have been doing a lot of laundry.  I have a whole new respect for all my techs who have ever had to take care of a parvo pup now!

Riot's road

Just got longer. Remember when I said he wasn't feeling well?  He took a turn for the worse this morning with diarrhea, drooling and fever. Plus he was much more lethargic. Suspecting parvo I dropped him off at the full service clinic my friend works and continued on to work. He tested positive and was started on treatment. I have him home with me now, getting his fluids and mess like a good little sick boy. Please wish him well. Poor kid can't catch a break.

MVMA 2016

Since it didn't work out to join Kelly at a conference this year I took the cheapest option and went to the state CE conference. Although there are a limited number of lectures to choose from I did get some pretty decent CE. Sometimes you never know how useful the info will be but this wasn't bad. I saw a few classmates and friends and was able to spend both evenings having dinner with some of the students that worked with me st the spay/neuter clinic. We had a good time and I actually stayed with one of them as she generously offered to put me up so I didn't even have to pay for a hotel.

The most exciting thing was walking into the exhibit hall and seeing this!

Really, can she get more famous? Better yet-they are probably setting up this display at conferences all over the country!

Welcome Riot

This little guy is our new foster. He got a rough start in life but hopefully things are going to get better for him soon.

Riot is about 6-8 months old and maybe 3 months ago his owner's girlfriend ran over him with the car and broke him femur (through his growth plate, while he was still growing). They did not seek medical care and it underwent a disastrous "healing" process. A few days ago someone (I'm still not sure we know who) took the dogs (this one and one other) drove them into town where they were witnesses being pushed out of a moving vehicle. This landed them in the local shelter. Initially the shelter staff thought his injury was from being tossed. But a trip to the vet and tracking down the original owner brought the truth about his injury to light. Faced with negligence charges or surrendering the dog, the owner released him to the shelter who transferred him to rescue. Consultation with the orthopedic surgeon concluded that a possible procedure to "correct" his leg would be expensive, lengthy, and carry only a guarded prognosis for reasonable function. Sadly, this leaves his best alternative amputation, which I will be doing later this week. He's quite the little pistol though and will do great on three legs.

He hasn't been feeling very well today though-has some tummy troubles. But hopefully he will be feeling well enough by Thursday to still have surgery. Also he's an abdominal cryptorchid so once he heals from the amputation he will have a more invasive neuter surgery. Poor kid can't catch a break!

Winter stuff

We had a few days of extra warm weather between the monotony of a SW MO winter. Which is mostly cloudy, cold and wet. Not really cold enough to freeze the mud but not warm or sunny enough to be pleasant. We were supposed to have ice this week but luckily it all stayed just far enough north for Jerry to keep his appointment to her his hernia fixed on Friday.

Since then we have been hanging out at home while he recovers and planning vacations somewhere warmer and sunnier.

I've also been playing with photo apps on my phone.

A living legend

It's not as if she needed any more fame, but Legend is now on an Easter card! A few years back she did a super cute spring/Easter photo shoot for a local photographer and some of the photos got picked up for a pack of Easter cards!

And if you don't want to go to the link here is a photo. I'll post more photos when I get my samples of course!

Jekyll Island 2016

After a lovely chistmas at our house with family, we loaded up the car and the dogs and headed to the beach.  We chose Jekyll island, Georgia but it's only a little over  a days drive, very dog friendly, and not overly crowded.  We really enjoyed our stay.  Our hotel was right on the beach with an ocean view and we had decent weather most of the time.  The island has lots of paved walking and biking trails, cute historic areas, and plenty of dog friendly beaches.  The beaches were huge and uncrowded so Legend was ecstatic about all the off leash running and playing.

Lyric did not have as much fun as Legend did, but she sure looked cute.
