Montana Day 10

Time to start home sadly. But we decided to go through North Dakota since it’s one of the few states we haven’t been to yet. We did a little sight seeing at Theodore Roosevelt park, had dinner in a historic town and then caught the sunset before heading to the hotel. Yeah we decided to skip camping on the way home. We had a long day of second and all the camping stuff is smashed deep in the trunk now lol.

Montana Day 9

It was race day! We got up at 4 in the morning to get to the shuttles for our start time. As promised the course had its uphills and downhills and the scenery was spectacular. We even saw a whole pack of bears! From a very far distance so no pics. But here are some shots we did get.

Montana Day 8

After packet pick up this morning we headed to the many glacier area of the park. It was too full of vehicles and they were turning people away. But we got a few pics from the scenic drive in.

Then to kill time we drive the scenic road to the border. The crossing was closed and security did not seem right. There was one guy who told us we could walk down there but “don’t get close the building or go past the gate” lol. Not sure he was keeping track to see if all the people who went down came back but if they didn’t we appeared to be a long way from civilization.

We also got the good news that the going to the sun road was now fully open. So at five we lined up with everyone else and drove it the whole way back to west glacier. There were some scary spots but overall it was a good drive with amazing scenery.

Tomorrow we get up early for the race!

Montana Day 7

We took another day trip today to Bigfork and enjoyed the drive through the scenic farmlands at the foot of the mountains. We did some shopping and tried a local distillery. And as our tradition Lindsay and I took Kash to yes another alcoholic establishment. He enjoyed his trucks and banging on a priceless antique piano.

Then we headed to Flathead Lake to take on some sights and  enjoy the cool water. Mater even had his own photoshoot.

We got in a little more sightseeing before a short storm blew in and we headed off to dinner.

Montana Day 6

More hiking today! Because we don’t have a Going To The Sun Road ticket we can only utilize certain park entrances at certain hours. So, we got up at 4:30 this morning to get in before six and drive up to the Avalanche Lake Trailhead. We then hiked over six miles before 10 AM. Because, you know, vacation 😂😂. It was worth it though.

Sunrise over Lake McDonald

McDonald Falls

Great picnic area near the trailhead. The water is soooo cold though!

Awesome blue water tumbling through this canyon along the first part of the trail

Views of the trail and along the way

At Avalanche Lake

A few more white water pics

And at Lake McDonald Lodge

We also moved to a nice condo for a few days we are sharing with friends. It has its perks but we do miss the outdoorsy mountain feel of the KOA.
