Adjusting (aka controlled chaos)

Everyone is settling in to the new 5 dog household ok.  Cade and Icy are "over it."  Cade and Finn have even been playing together.  For the most part things are going smoothly but feeding time and morning potty are a little wild.  We don't have a very smooth routine down yet.  Also Cade and Finn are both very excited about going outside and both are very sure they need to get out the door first.  I thought this might result in some arguments but mostly just a lot of commotion and banging into walls and doors.  I would think they would have bruises if we could see their skin!

Speaking of Cade, it's time for him to get adopted.  And not because I'm getting attached to him.  The other way around.  He has reached that point where he seems very happy, comfortable, and content here.  Like he's ours.  But poor boy, he isn't.  I hate when they get so settled in and happy and then we ship them off again.  Although Cade seems to like everyone so I know he will adjust again,  it just breaks my heart a little to see him napping so peacefully on the floor with the other dogs-you know, the ones that really do live here.

But, everyone will find a home eventually.  It just gets a little hard to keep track of 3 black and white dogs sometimes!

Chances Q #12!

Welcome back

Finn didn't do well in his new home.  We think there might have been too much activity there for him as was often agitated, not getting along with the other dog, and at times concerned about strangers and visitors to the house.  So, although it was a difficult and painful decision, his mom decided he would be happier in another home.  Which essentially means that for now, he his back with us.  Cade and Icy seem a little put out by this. As usual, Zodiac, Legend, and Lyric seem indifferent-just another foster dog...

Not a NATCH, but close

We went to the always enjoyable Lickety Split trial in Oklahoma this weekend.  And despite minimal training, (as in about 5 minutes total since Champs) they did very well.  Lyric actually had a super weekend going 5/7 with two jumpers, one tunnelers and two regular Qs.  She was a speedy little girl, did most of her weave poles and even some of her discriminations.  She did seem overly interested in taking the A-frame this weekend and one time I was actually not able to keep her from taking it as an off course.  No clue why the sudden fascination.

Legend had a good weekend as well.  Except for jumping off multiple contacts.  She was very enthusiastic this weekend.  In fact on her first run she pulled me into the ring, which she never does.  She went on to do a picture perfect Touch and Go course complete with dogwalk fly-off at the end.  She missed several other contacts this weekend as well but on the plus side, no contact refusals.  She ended up with a Q in tunnelers, two in jumpers, one regular and one chances.  Her Sunday jumpers was really nice-I wish we had  that one on video.  And her tunnelers run was over 7 yards per second which I think is her fastest.  And finally, after an total fail in chances on Saturday, she had a very nice Q on Sunday complete with me screaming "easy, easy, easy" as she came over the A-frame.  This means she now only needs one more Chances Q for her NATCH.  And in a repeat of when she was going for her MACH we will wait from November until at least March for the final piece.  Oh well.

I finally found this picture of Lyric on the Banfield website. Still haven't seen any literature with her pictures. I hope they use more than this one shot-there were so many cute ones!

Good news, bad news

Good news-my knee didn't hurt during the race on Sunday. Yay for physical therapists. So far anyway. 

Bad news-my foot has hurt since the race. The rest of my normal post big race soreness has resolved. Foot still hurts. 

So although I am not opposed to spending a few evenings plopped down on the couch watching TV, I hope not to spend a few weeks doing this. 

Always seems like as soon as I get really fit, I get hurt. At least I got a 10k and half-marsthon PR out of it first. But I have several races planned in about 3-4 weeks and had hoped to run well in them-still trying to get a 5k under 24 minutes. So I'll be bummed to miss out on training but I'd be even more bummed to not be able to run them at all. 

Either way, looks like more TV tonight. 

Run, Rock, and Roll

We concluded our vacation by running the Rock N Roll Half-marathon in St. Louis on Sunday.  Isn't that how everyone finishes up vacation?  Anyway, my goal was to run it in under 2 hours.  Not only did I do that, but I beat my previous personal best by 14 minutes.

And yes, I hurt today.  Also, go Cards.  And no, I don't want to talk about the MIZZOU game.
