Fly high powderpuff

Earlier this week we noticed Lyric seemed to have more than abnormal amount of snoring and upper respiratory noise but attributed it to her allergies or whatever causes her to snore in the first place. One night she also had a weird hacking fit. Wednesday she coughed a little and was slow to finish her food but otherwise normal so I thought I would start her back on her allergy med. Thursday she only picked at her food but ate treats. In the evening she seemed to be coughing more and short of breath a few times. It seemed more cardiac than respiratory and when I listened to her found she had developed a significant murmur since the last time I had checked her over. I decided to take her to work in the morning. But by bedtime she was breathing hard and having a tough time getting comfortable. At this point I was concerned about how fast as it was progressing and worried she had ruptured the bands of tissue that attach the heart valves. This can cause acute and often untreatable congestive heart failure as the valve becomes nonfunctional. She fell asleep around 11:30 and I woke up at 1:30 and she had passed away. I feel she probably did have a rupture. It was just too fast to be anything else.

We were shocked and saddened by her sudden and unexpected passing, but find peace in that she was home and asleep and only sick a few hours. She is not a great patient and testing and being in the hospital would have been a lot harder on both of us.

Lyric was the cutest agility dog, best Pomeranian, and the “arm dog” I had so badly wanted. She was a good therapy dog, and in her youth a pretty game little hiking dog. She helped raise up a lot of foster puppies and was Icy’s best bud. She was loud, and bratty, but sweet and well loved-her long distance sisters will miss her a lot! The house is a lot quieter now without our little floopsy. RIP Lyric.
