The pit

If any of you watch the NBC sitcom "Parks and Recreation" you may recall that the first season or two revolved around "the pit"-a neighborhood eyesore that they eventually turned into a park.  Well, we have our own version of that here.  At the end of our street there is this...

This hole (?) has been here ever since we moved in over 7 years ago.  We have no idea what it is.  We thought it might have been an abandoned or failed attempt at a lake but we don't really know.  For years it just sat there.  We watched.  We waited.  Nothing happened.  Then, recently they started working on it again. Sort of.  They moved a little dirt around, maybe made it bigger or deeper but never really accomplished anything.  This is what it looks like today.  That bulldozer sits out there almost all the time.

Next to the "pit" is the "mound."

When we moved in this was little more than a huge pile of dirt, rocks, and weeds-presumably from digging the "pit."  Now, as you can see, it has been hanging out long enough to practically have a forest on it.  Fortunately we can't see any of this from our house, we just have to drive by it every day.

Anyway, today turned out to be perfect race weather and although I wasn't terribly excited about my time (no better or worse than back in the fall) I did manage to pick up 2nd place in my age group.
It was a beautiful day all around really-would have been great to go riding (if you have forgotten, I actually own a horse!) or get my gardens cleaned out for spring-many of my bulbs and groundcover are already blooming.  But after getting up early and racing I didn't feel the need to do anything that required expending energy and getting dirty.  So I went and watched my cousin play volleyball and then vegged.  Might do some agility in a bit.  And besides, why would I weed the gardens just to be gone for two weeks?  I'll have to weed them when I come back anyway.  I'm thinking of taking the same approach to dusting the house as well...

And one more surprise for the day-Lyrics photos from her modeling shoot came!  I'm totally convinced she is the cutest dog to ever live.

Oh, and I got an invitation to my 15 year high school reunion in the mail.  I feel old.  Sadly (I guess, not sure I care that much) I will be in California running the half-marathon.  So I guess I'll have to pass on appetizers with a bunch of people I probably won't recognize anyway.

That is a whole lot of cute! :o)

My 15 year reunion is supposed to be this year as well (hs, not college). So far the furthest we've gotten in planning is a Facebook page that nobody posts on. What do you expect from a class that never even had a 10 year reunion? lol If it ever gets planned, I probably won't go. I'll find a trial to do instead!
